Email

The Linfield University assigned email account shall be the official means of communication with all students, faculty and staff. All members of the Linfield Community (faculty, students and staff) are eligible for Linfield email access as soon as a record is created for them in the database.

It is the individual’s responsibility to read email in a timely manner and to ensure that email is not returned to sender because of improper forwarding or mailbox-full condition. 

Due to security and privacy concerns, Linfield does not allow automatic email forwarding to another email account.

Updating your Password:

Password Expiry

Passwords expire every 6 months (you will receive email reminders as your expiration is approaching). If you run into issues signing in and it has been a while since you changed your password, it is likely you need to reset it.

Password Requirements

  • Minimum length: 8 characters
  • Reasonable length: 16 characters
  • Maximum length: 24 characters
  • Must contain:
    • 1 upper case letter
    • 1 lower case letter
    • 1 number
  • May contain special characters except ; \ ? : @ & = < >
  • Cannot be a password you have used before.
  • Make a story to remember your password. 

Change CatNet/Email Password

  • Open our identity portal (https://riportal.linfield.edu) in any browser.
  • Login with your CatNet credentials.
  • If your password has expired, you will immediately be prompted to set a new one. Otherwise, click your name in the upper right and choose Change Password.
  • You will now be prompted to enter a new password in the first box, and to verify it in the second box.
  • Click Next.

Forgotten CatNet/Email Password

  • Open our identity portal (https://riportal.linfield.edu) in any browser.
  • Click on “Need Help”?
  • Click on Forgot My Password.
  • Enter your username/CatNet and then click Next.
  • Answer your Challenge Questions* and then click Next. Your answers are not case sensitive.
  • You will now be prompted to enter a new password in the first box, and to verify it in the second box.
  • Click Next.
  • *Please answer the challenge questions correctly to unlock the password change.
